Hubby and I had our follow up appointment with my OBGYN. We received some news that we were expecting - I'm not ovulating and then we received some we weren't expecting - hubby has low sperm count. Our OBGYN said he only specializes in female infertility so he is referring us to the Regional Fertility Program.
It's going to take several months to get into the clinic, but they will be able to help us further. They offer all kinds of services so if we find out we need additional help, they run all types of fertility treatments.
I am just trying to relax and get through the wait, maybe I'll be pregnant before we get into the program.

I've Been Really Sick
My posts have been getting shorter and more infrequent as I've been been really sick for a couple of months. I started having swollen tonsils in mid October and was on my first round of antibiotics by the end of October. After my first round of antibiotics, I got sick again. I started a second round, and then the same thing happened. It took me four rounds of antibiotics in order to kick this throat infection. I was pretty much going to be right after I got home from work everyday. I ended up taking a whole week off of work just to rest.
Hubby and I booked a vacation to Mexico in January, which probably isn't the smartest decision financially, but I felt like I need the rest to feel better. I am looking forward to getting out of the snow and letting themargaritas sunshine help me fight this throat infection again.

TTC #2 - Saw OBGYN
We got into the OBGYN, it took us a few months. It's been a long few months for be starting to worry if everything is going to be alright. At this point, I'm trying hard to keep a positive attitude. It's been hard to count cycle days and guestimate fertility while my cycles have been so irregular.
My hubby came with me to my OBGYN appoint which made me feel a lot more comfortable. I really like my OBGYN. He sent us both for some tests and after our tests we get to see him again. He sounded pretty positive saying that he thinks we should just need some help ovulating which is fairly easy in most cases. I left happy to have the process started but I know it's going to be awhile for these tests and I'm anxious to get started.

TTC Post #1 - Saw the Family Doctor
I haven't spoken to many people about my hubby and I trying to conceive (TTC) yet, but I thought I'd start to share on this blog. I've mentioned a few times on this blog about how I want to get our money situation under control so we can start to have children.
Now that my hubby and I have an idea about money management and we are getting closer to being out of debt, we've decided to start trying for children. It's very exciting but really hard not to know when it is going to happen. I am having problems with my cycle being irregular so I went to my family doctor. My family doctor decided to refer me yo an OBGYN and said it can take a couple of months to get into. I've never seen a OBGYN, only a family doctor but I am excited to get the ball rolling.
In the meantime, I've been keeping myself busy with lots of research online. I love to read and to research which could be both a good thing and a bad thing.
Fingers crossed for us!

Our 35 Year Mortgage
In 2010 we bought a house and we took a 35 year mortgage. In the personal finance books I've been reading, they all seem to recommend a 10 maybe 15 year mortgage but that was not feasible for us.
We didn't buy an expensive home, we bought an older home in an niceish neighbourhood. It's a safe neighbourhood where our houses aren't cookie cutters and we actually have a back yard. We bought a home to renovate, but that had good bones and we could live in it without doing any work if we had to.
We took a 35 year mortgage, which, after our down payment of $30 000, made our mortgage payments $1235/month. That was pushing what we could afford at the time. Shortly after we bought the house, the Bank of Canada reduced the maximum mortgage length to 30 years.
Last week I heard on the radio that now in Canada you can't get a mortgage over 25 years. I am so happy we bought when we did. We live in a big, expensive city and while a 35 year mortgage is a very long term, we can increase the payments and put money down in lump sums when we can afford to. In the meantime, we are putting our money into our own asset (well at least some of it, tons is going to the bank as interest).
I was one of the first of my friends to buy my house and I really wonder how people are going to be able to afford to buy a house with the shorter terms. Our "starter" house was $315 000 and we bought during the recession when housing prices had dropped.
I am so thankful we bought when we did, even if it means paying extra interest. We have already increased our payments as our paychecks increase and have already shaved years off our of mortgage.
I don't think longer mortgage terms are a bad thing. It makes the payments affordable for those who are just starting out, and give you the ability to increase the payments as you go. Having affordable housing, with an affordable mortgage payment is very important!

Halfway There!
I've been pretty quiet for the past month, but that is because hubby and I have been super busy with renos, planting the gardens and doing some home made cooking. I will have to share pictures of our progress a little bit later.
This past week we made a $110 payment towards our line of credit and we are finally at $6000 on the dot! That means we have paid off half of our line of credit since November!
We are very happy and excited and we are picking up our momentum! We should have the line of credit paid off between September and November of this year which means we only have the car loan to pay off!
As you can tell from all my exclamation marks, I am very excited!! We have done this while putting away money into savings (RRSP's, TFSA's, and regular savings) and our savings currently out weigh our debts.
The other thing is, although we have put a few planned things on to credit card, it was mostly for the cash back rewards my husband and I receive and because we planned for it, we could pay it off in the same month.
I'm giving us a HUGE pat on the back!!!
